Over the years, Bennett Lumber has assembled a state-of-the-art Geographic
Information System. This system, using ESRI's ArcInfo, ArcView, and ArcMap
software, covers almost 7.5 million acres in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Some
features implemented into the project are roads, ownership, hydrology, contours,
landuse, survey corners, digital orthophoto coverage and digital elevation models.

For the creation of the EMS Map Books several other 'layers' had to be added (some
created) including homesites, rural address index numbers, road names, highway
mile markers, trailer/mobile home courts, canopy cover, Forest Service routes and
trails, many gate locations, mines, and fire district boundaries. Latitude and
longitude reference marks, 40-ft contours, detail maps of densely populated areas
and detailed city maps with parcel tract numbers, street names, and city limit
boundaries were also added.

In 2000, the first EMS Map Book was created by Lisa (Nieber) Rode, GIS Specialist
for Bennett Lumber Products. She completed a second version in 2004 and a third
version was published in 2008.
