Community Involvement
Contributions
Bennett Lumber Products contributes to the Idaho Forest Products Commission every year. By administering educational programs and making educational materials available, the IFPC is an organization dedicated to the dissemination of information to the public concerning sustainable forest management. In 2000, Bennett Lumber contributed over $18,000 to the IFPC.
Project Learning Tree, one of the IFPC mainstays, is an award winning environmental education program designed for teachers and others working with students in pre-kindergarten through high school. Project Learning Tree provides workshops for teachers, foresters, park and nature center staff, and youth group leaders.
Bennett Lumber Products helps with youth summer reading programs, scholarship awards, MathCounts, school forestry tours, and the Distinguished Young Women of Idaho program. In addition, we contribute to 4-H projects.
Bennett Lumber invested $5000 to match civic donations to help the nearby town of Potlatch establish an illuminated, outdoor basketball court and playground.
Emergency Services
Bennett Lumber responds to emergency situations with trained personnel when requested. Employee EMTs and First Responders assist local departments on medical and fire calls. Bennett Lumber also participates in Search and Rescue operations.
Bennett Lumber also provides detailed maps to police, fire departments, search and rescue, and ambulances to assist them in responding quickly to emergencies.

Production for Bennett sawmills reaches 150 MMBF annually consisting of quality dimension lumber including Douglas Fir, White Fir, Engelmann Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, Idaho White Pine, Inland Red Cedar, and Ponderosa Pine.
The lumber is shipped by truck and we also have rail transportation capabilities. In addition, units may be wrapped at the customer's request to ensure safe, clean delivery.
Representing both Guy Bennett Lumber Company and Bennett Lumber Products, our sales staff is available from 6am to 4pm (PST) Monday through Friday.

Jim Vandegrift, Sales Manager, joined Bennett Lumber in September of 1991. Jim's career in the lumber industry began in 1978 while attending college and working at a sawmill in Montana. Following graduation, Jim started his career in sales and marketing. |

Bob Jahns retired from the US Air Force and flew commercially before joining the Bennett team in July of 1994 as Chief Pilot and as Safety Director, responsible for federal safety compliance. He entered the sales arena in the fall of 1994. |

Bennett Lumber's sustainable forestry goal is to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs by adopting land stewardship ethics that assure forests in this area remain healthy and continue to provide wood products, wildlife habitat, biological diversity, clean water, and recreational opportunities. |

Maintaining and enhancing ecosystem health is the primary focus of Bennett Lumber's forest management efforts. Healthy forests provide habitat for fish and wildlife as well as timber for our mills. Bennett Lumber's commitment to sound environmental practices is an everyday effort.
When it comes time to remove trees, Bennett's foresters manage with a light touch, removing unhealthy tress and planning for the needs of future forests. Most harvests are done to remove diseased and feeble trees to improve forest health. All harvest prescriptions favor leaving healthy native tree species. Our foresters use a variety of silvicultural prescriptions to assure biologic diversity, protect water quality, maintain wildlife habitat, and preserve visual quality. |
